What Shall We Have For Dinner?
Welcome August!
Today’s excerpt comes from a handy book entitled
The Calendar of Dinners
365 Answers to the Daily Question:
What shall we have for dinner?
Selected and Arranged By Elizabeth O. Hiller
Unsure of publication date. The book is maybe late 1920s or 1940s.
Anyways, on to the important part: Dinner Menu Ideas for August.
Love the variety of foods in each meal. I never think of small sides – you really get the sense of a balanced diet and seasonal foods.
What foods are you all currently enjoying in season?
I’m actually feeling the fish chowder for this Friday night family. And, how coincidental, pickles are my go-to green vegetable when I’m too lazy to even microwave frozen peas! Here I was sporting the August Dinner Menu before I even knew it was a thing.
My friends, enjoy the weekend~
loved looking over the menus………it would be so fun to put together a complete meal from the 20s…..

Aren’t they just delightful? They’re food combinations that I would never think of having together at a single meal. The menus are easy enough, as well! Time to gather some friends together and make it a night!

It always sounds like a lot of food, but their portion sizes were much smaller.
