Delicious Homemade Lemonade.
What irony is it that winter brings us fresh citrus best intended for the refreshing beverages of warmer days? The local lemon trees are peeking with their golden offerings, compelling us to roll up our sleeves and don the apron.
This simple lemonade recipe makes just over two quarts, more than enough to slacken thirsty teens or a birthday party with half a dozen 8 year olds.
Ingredients.
- 2 cups sugar dissolved in 4 cups boiling water
- 6 juicy lemons, peeled
- 4 cups cold water
Bring the sugar and 4 cups water to a boil. Peel the lemons, removing as little of the white pith as possible. Set the lemons aside.
Put the lemons into the sugar water. Remove from the stove and set aside to chill.
Once cold, add the remaining 4 cups cold water. Squeeze the lemon juice into the liquid. Strain the lemonde into a clean container and chill further until serving.
This lemonade tastes like lemon meringue pie! Would be delicious with rum for an adult fruity beverage to enjoy on a sunny patio.
I always make a simple syrup, but this technique is new to me. Must try it!

I loved that you make the syrup, and then ad the rinds. Imparted a subtle flavor. I highly recommend!
