Chili Meat 1938

Sunset Chili Recipe.

Today’s recipe comes from a fun cookbook, a 1938 Sunset Kitchen Cabinet Cook Book. All of the margins include cartoons detailing the steps in the recipe. Here’s the one for chili:

I always enjoy compilation cookbooks, where the contributors submit recipes and then sign off on the bottom – gives recipes a sense of intimacy, a direct connection with the past.

  1. This sounds like a good idea in which to prep and freeze, so when that first *chill* hits the air, you are ready to stoke up a quick meal in the kitchen or on the camp grounds with the chocolate and the marsh-mellows on stand by.

…with possibly a *lost* stranger passing by for the smell of it of it all. :o)

Here’s to cooler days that are a comin’!!!

    1. Chili is definitely one of those freezer staples! This recipe is much more involved than my simple ground beef, tomatoes, beans, onions, and seasoning. I come across so many recipes where they blend several different kinds of meat. Other than game, it just isn’t something that I would think to do naturally.
