1850s Orange and Brandy Salad Recipe.
Dessert or Salad?
I posted this recipe previously, but finally had a chance to go back and make it for a gathering – with great success!
- 6 Oranges
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 pint or 1 teacup of brandy, rum, or Madeira
Notes: Make ahead and let chill for several hours or overnight to soak in the alcohol. Surprisingly, the salad is not sweet, but refreshing and balanced. One guest decided to add a bit of amaretto and said that came out well, too.
