If you read newspaper articles about Christmas celebrations printed during the American Civil War, you’ll come across descriptions of food shortages and rampant inflation, especially in the South. The interesting thing about Jenni June’s book is that it was printed in 1866, one year after the end of the American Civil War. Given the timing, it makes sense that she’s highlighting how to have an economical Christmas party for about $40.
